Thing of the Week - Trip Trap, Trip Trap
As part of the launch of 50 Things in Southwark, we are focusing on 1 of the 50 activities in this amazing app. Next is ‘Trip Trap, Who’s That Walking Over My Bridge?’
Do you remember the story of Billy Goats Gruff?
“The troll under the bridge,
And all that stuff.
If you liked that old story
There’s fun to be had
Playing pooh-sticks and paddling
Who said learning was bad?”
Hopefully there is a bridge over water near you, this might be a stream or a river, somewhere that is accessible for you to explore with your child.
Great bridges for trip trapping and pooh sticks are the bridge in Dulwich Park, Tower Bridge, Millennium bridge or Rotherhithe Bascule Bridges. Let us know what bridges you have found!
Pooh-sticks is a very old game, you may have heard a Grandparent mention it while reminiscing about their childhood, as you may have guessed it was invented by A.A.Milne when he wrote Winnie the Pooh in the 1920s. To play. All you need is a stream, a bridge and a few twigs, you throw your twigs in to the stream on one side of the bridge (try to remember who’s is who’s) then go to the other side and see who’s twig wins the race!
