Grow your own tomato nursery
Gardening is a great activity for children to enjoy nature and learn about how things grow. You don’t need fancy equipment or even much space, and you may even be lucky enough to enjoy tasting the fruits of your labour!
Watercress and sunflower seeds are a good choice for impatient little gardeners. Otherwise, try herbs or vegetables which can then be used as part of a cooking activity. 1st Place staff and children are growing their own tomatoes at home for planting in our nursery garden on their return. Why not join them? Grow your own tomato nursery with the humble egg box by following the steps below.
Homegrown tomatoes
Find an empty egg box and fill it with soil.
Remove the seeds from a tomato (shop bought tomatoes are fine). Plant them individually in each section of the egg box.
Keep the soil moist and put the egg box on a sunny window ledge.
Wait for 1-2 weeks to see your first seedlings!
