Tops tips for hand washing with children
Regular hand washing is an important way for you and your family to stay healthy and prevent germs from spreading. Below are our top tips to help encourage those little hands to get washing!
Start early – From an early age, make hand washing a part of your child’s daily routine. For example, after they have used the toilet or potty, before eating, after playing outside, or after coughing, sneezing or blowing their nose.
Watch your technique – Make sure that you are following guidance around proper hand washing. The NHS have developed a child friendly video explaining how to wash your hands.
Sing! – It takes around 20 seconds of hand washing to remove germs so why not sing a 20 second long song such as ‘Happy Birthday’ or if you’re feeling creative, invent your own? 4. Use gentle encouragement and praise.
Set the example - Kids learn from the grown-ups around them so make sure that you are setting a good example for them to follow. For further guidance on hand washing, please visit the NHS website.
